Meet Stanley Mere, who joined our team this August as a Project Engineer. With a lifelong fascination for how things work and a career built on hands-on experience, Stanley brings both energy and precision to every project he takes on.
“Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an engineer,” says Stanley. “I used to take my toys apart just to see how they worked. I even walked around with spanners and took things apart at school – people thought it was very strange!”
That curiosity led him from Lagos, Nigeria, where he grew up, to the North East of England, where he’s now made his home. After initially studying in India, Stanley went on to earn his Higher National Diploma (HND) in engineering at South Tyneside College and later a top-up degree at Northumbria University.
“I loved the culture in the North East from the moment I arrived,” he says. “The people are friendly, and I love going out in Newcastle – it feels like home!”
Lifting Excellence
Before joining JK Lifting, Stanley was at LiftRite, first as a Mechanical Engineer and later as a Structural Engineer, gaining valuable experience across both disciplines.
Now, as a Project Engineer here at JK Lifting, he’s responsible for site visits, client liaison, taking measurements, compiling quotes, carrying out hand calculations, and producing fabrication and design drawings.
“I’m out and about a lot, which I love,” Stanley explains. “I like speaking to clients, understanding what they need, and turning that into practical, safe solutions.”
Stanley is also soon to be certified to oversee projects on site, a step he’s particularly excited about as he continues to grow in his role.
A team that lifts together
For Stanley, one of the best parts of joining JK Lifting has been the people.
“The team here is great, everyone gets on really well,” he says. “I enjoy the pace of the work and the range of projects we get involved in. I’m constantly learning and developing new skills. I just really enjoy engineering.”
Life beyond lifting
Outside of work, Stanley’s enthusiasm and discipline extend to the gym, where he enjoys weightlifting. He’s also a former jiu-jitsu and MMA enthusiast.
