Before joining JK Lifting as a Site Engineer in early 2024, Jamie Morris served in the Army for the best part of a decade. His time in the Forces saw him complete a peacekeeping tour in Kosovo and undertake overseas training in Canada, Estonia, and Germany, bringing a wealth of experience, dedication and transferable skills to the JK Lifting team.
Jamie had experience in using overhead cranes in the Army, however, he was eager to learn and develop.. He recently completed the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) Foundation Certificate (FOU), all while completing the Military Transition Scheme, which he is immensely proud of.
Jamie said: “I’d strongly recommend LEEA training to anyone coming out of the Forces, as it’s an excellent way to build skills and prepare for work in the lifting industry.”
As a Site Engineer, Jamie’s day-to-day role is varied, often involving inspection work, such as boarding vessels to inspect rigging gear and lifting equipment. He also takes on heavy machinery jobs, which he particularly enjoys.
“These projects require creative problem-solving and collaboration with engineers,” he explains, “I really thrive when I’m challenged to work with the team and come up with different solutions.”
For Jamie, the best part of JK Lifting is the team itself. “They’re more than just colleagues, they’re friends”, he says. “We all come from different backgrounds and career paths, so there’s always something to learn from each other.
“My military experience gives me a unique perspective,” Jamie concludes, “I approach projects differently, and many of the skills I gained in the Forces are transferrable to life here at JK Lifting.”
